Evelyn starts to read

Evelyn has been working so hard to learn the words I assigned her. Her motivation was a new 'Tinkerbell' book for her Leapfrog TAG system. She is really getting the concept of blending phonetic sounds together. We are SO proud of her!

Now, she has a new set of words added to the first. 37 words in total. When she masters all of them, I'll have to find a new treat for her. I'm thinking another TAG book.

GREAT JOB Evelyn!

Way to go Evelyn! I feel your pride Bev - what an exciting time! I love how she concentrates on sounding it out if she isn't sure and is able to get it on her own! Great blending of sight reading and phonetics! YAY!!

Great video and fantastic reading! It's so exciting to watch your children learn to love reading! Yes, you should be VERY proud!! I like the way you have the words up on the wall.

It seemed like learning to read and learning to swim were such significant milestones in the kids. It really is exciting!

K-A check out www.leapfrog.com to see their books and the TAG system. It uses a 'pen' reader (that does not print) that somehow reads the page and produces a sound bite for whatever area of the page you touch. It also has comprehension games built into each story. I think that the TAG books have a very faint code printed over the page. It's almost impossible to see. The 'pen' has a little lens that picks up the code and plays the appropriate sound. It is a very cool system - and comes with a headphone jack!
