Returning Home

After almost 3 weeks in Victoria, and a full month away from home, (except for 3 days the kids and I returned during Ryan's seminar) we headed back to Caslan early on July 27 and arrived home about 10:30 pm July 28th.

We took one of the new ferries, the 'Coastal Celebration' and enjoyed the phenomenally warm temps outside on deck. We were comfortable in t-shirts - even in the strong wind at the front of the ship! I can't remember ever feeling so much warmth while on a ferry. It was beautiful.

We stopped at the J's again and were treated to a turkey dinner and home made pumpkin pie ice cream. Yummy!

The next morning, we were up at 6 am and out the door by 6:30 am. We had several potty stops along the way, and took the Ice Field Parkway from Banff to Jasper rather than going the faster route from Calgary to Edmonton. It added about 2 hrs to the trip, but it was beautiful! That stretch of the park is so interesting to look at. We had a 'Lupper' (lunch/supper) in Jasper at around 4pm BC time/ 5 pm AB time then sprinted for home.

The kids, as usual, did very well and only watched one or two movies during the 15 hr car ride.

Alberta seems to have had lots of rain. The grass is all green and lush. Our lawn was a solid 30-50 cm long! Oddly, I heard that our county is declaring an 'agricultural disaster' due to drought conditions. I guess most of our county missed all the rain and their neighbouring county (which we are very close to) got all of it instead. Funny how that happens.

wow, beautiful. I never realized until today that all these posts you were talking about the past. I was wondering how you did so much in one day!!!!!
love the picture of the water droplets and the water at the back of the ferry. and the one of the mountain face. that rock is so beautiful! it does look worth the drive! that is so long to have the freedom to take the long, peaceful route home and not be driven by the need for getting home so quickly! the extra 2 hours is worth it when it's so beautiful! good for you for the 15 hour trip! and great for the kids! that is an answer to prayer, for sure!
that picture of the kids with their hands against the windows could go in a BC ferries magazine. it is so well laid out, and the lighting is perfect. just beautiful. you're so amazing at taking people pictures bev. I guess you have a lot of practice! they're always doing cute & interesting things!

Looks like you had a fabulous holiday! I'll be heading to the island in a week and a half. I'm taking my mom on her VERY FIRST backpacking trip along the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail. You and I being coastal girls know how wonderful it is to be back on the island and beside the sea. Hope you are recharged and ready to take on the rest of the summer!

Sorry we timed our time away from Victoria so untimely with your time here. Maybe we'll catch you the next time you're in town. Looks like you had a nice trip up to Cowichan Bay with mom and dad.

Hi Bev and Ryan, Thanks for sharing your pictures. I think your family saw more of the Island in 3 weeks than most of us see in 3years. Looks like you had a lovely time. You also had wonderful weather for your trip. Glad you got home safe. Give our love to your lovely children. Thanks again for comning to the lake with us. Love Grandad Parrish.
